France - Day 1

We spent 7 nights in Paris, 3 nights in Bayeux, Normandy, and the last 3 nights in Paris. We flew Air Canada with a stopover in Toronto. It was a smooth flight on a Boeing 777 - nice airplane, with good seat pitch.

We had rented an apartment with Vacations in Paris. It was a studio that could sleep 4 on 153 rue de Grenelle in the 7th arrondissement. The rue Cler market street is at the end of the block. The Ecole Militaire metro stop is a couple of blocks away. We had a slight view of the Eiffel Tower from our window. For $135 USD/night, it great value in a fantastic location. No complaints except for the lively pub below our apt. It's only an issue during the summer months if you leave your windows open; I can't see this being a problem during the cold weather months with the windows closed.

Here are some pics of the apt.
Front door of the apt complex
Kitchen/Laundry (Washer/Dryer combo
The living room/dining room/bedroom. The sofas fold out to surprisingly comfortable beds.
The view outside our window.

We had lunch at Cafe Rousillon. It was OK, not great but decent. We were going to go to Cafe Constant on rue St. Dominique, which was a 10-min. walk away. However, the kids were jet lagged and ready to drop. Cafe Rousillon was a few steps away from our apt.  Here's what we ate:

Marissa's hamburger and fries with salad.
Mark and Kiki's chicken burger and fries with salad.
My white fish on top of a veggie goulash with salad.
My meal was the most French - I really don't know why my family went for burgers in France. Never mind ...greater meals are in store...

Oh, to show how awful jet lag is, here's a pic of my girls collapsing after lunch...oh yeah, Mom and Dad crashed too shortly after this pic was taken:

After we all woke up refreshed about 2 hours later, we headed out to the FNAC store on the Champs Elysees to pick up our Disneyland Paris tickets and our 4-day Paris Museum Passes. Only Mark and I had to buy the museum passes. The kids are free.

We also went to the Galleries Lafayette to go to the Monoprix store to pick up some French hair products and soaps for the apt. What a great store! The girls went crazy, you can imagine.

We then hopped on the the metro to have dinner at Chez Imogene (metro Oberkampf). The metro is great here. We can go across town so easily. There are so many lines and well designed routes.

Chez Imogene is this quaint crepe/galette place that I read about.

The girls had basic jambon et fromage galettes (savoury crepes made out of buckwheat flour).

Mark and I had a vegetarian special that had mushrooms, tomato, carrots, and leeks around it.

We ordered a couple of dessert crepes to share, which we devoured before I remembered to take a picture. So here's a half-eaten apple and almond crepe with caramel - it was really, really yummy...

This was the perfect end to a perfect first day in Paris. Stay tuned for Day 2.
